Spruce Kings Playoff Game - Event Calendar - Prince George.
The Warriors and Spruce Kings were neck and neck to start the hockey game trading scoring chances but once the Warriors got into penalty trouble momentum would shift to the Spruce Kings side. On their second power play attempt the Warriors would allow a pass up the middle to Preston Brodziak who was score his 4th of the year to give the Spruce Kings a 1-0 lead after one. Shots on goal 12-3.
Kawaguchi picked up his second of the game with 17.5 seconds left, converting on a nice centering pass from Darien Craighead. Chilliwack goalie Aidan Pelino had a shutout streak of 155:58 dating back to the first period of last weekend’s win over Salmon Arm. The Spruce Kings snapped it on a Braiden Epp tally 4:05 into the final frame. That was the only puck eluding Pelino, who only had 14.
The Kodiaks put on the heat in the second and from that point on scored four unanswered goals to take the game 4-2. Day 3: May 7. The early game was between the Aurora Tigers and the Pembroke Lumber Kings. Aurora came out strong and took an early lead, but ran into rather lopsided penalty trouble and found themselves down 3-1 in the third. The Pembroke lead corresponded with a string of nine.
The Spruce Kings and the WHL team are in competition. The WHL team has a right of refusal on the big rink, meaning they can approve or deny any other team from renting the rink. The same situation is in Kelowna. A few years ago when PG hosted the RBC, it was the organizing committee who rented the big rink and not the Spruce Kings. The city realized that hosting the RBC was good for the local.
The Eagles and Spruce Kings are only separated in the standings by 4 points, with 4th place in the BCHL’s Mainland Division. With every point meaning so much, this weekend is effectively an 8 point weekend as these teams are looking to make a statement against each other. The last time the Eagles were in Prince George, they won both games to start their season 2-0 back in early September.
The Penticton Vees are back to winning ways after a 4-1 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings to open a three game weekend in the Cariboo. Mark MacMillan had a goal and an assist and Garrett Milan had a helper, as the pair returned to the Penticton line-up after missing three games with upper body injuries.
